バックグラウンド: | Binds to plexin family members and plays an important role in the regulation of developmental processes. Required for normal cardiovascular development during embryogenesis. Functions as attractant for growing axons, and thereby plays an important role in axon growth and axon guidance (By similarity). |
シノニム: | Semaphorin-3C (Semaphorin-E) (Sema E), SEMA3C, SEMAE |
UniProt Protein Function: | SEMA3C: a secreted protein that may be involved in cell survival mechanisms. Expressed intensely in the heart, skeletal muscle, colon, small intestine, ovary, testis, and prostate. Faint expression ubiquitously among other organs, including brain. Binds with high affinity to the receptor NRP2. |
UniProt Protein Details: | Protein type:Secreted, signal peptide; Secreted Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 7q21-q31 Cellular Component: extracellular space; membrane Molecular Function:receptor activity; semaphorin receptor binding Biological Process: neural tube development; response to drug; axon guidance; limb bud formation; somitogenesis; blood vessel remodeling; immune response; neural crest cell migration; post-embryonic development |
NCBI Summary: | This gene encodes a secreted glycoprotein that belongs to the semaphorin class 3 family of neuronal guidance cues. The encoded protein contains an N-terminal sema domain, integrin and immunoglobulin-like domains, and a C-terminal basic domain. Homodimerization and proteolytic cleavage of the C-terminal propeptide are necessary for the function of the encoded protein. It binds a neuropilin co-receptor before forming a heterotrimeric complex with an associated plexin. An increase in the expression of this gene correlates with an increase in cancer cell invasion and adhesion. Naturally occurring mutations in this gene are associated with Hirschsprung disease.
