バックグラウンド: | This gene encodes an enzyme belonging to the family of fucosyltransferases. The product of this gene catalyzes the transfer of fucose from GDP-fucose to N-linked type complex glycopeptides. This enzyme is distinct from other fucosyltransferases which catalyze alpha1-2, alpha1-3, and alpha1-4 fucose addition. The expression of this gene may contribute to the malignancy of cancer cells and to their invasive and metastatic capabilities. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants |
シノニム: | fucosyltransferase 8 (α (1,6) fucosyltransferase) |
UniProt Protein Function: | FUT8: Catalyzes the addition of fucose in alpha 1-6 linkage to the first GlcNAc residue, next to the peptide chains in N-glycans. Belongs to the glycosyltransferase 23 family. 2 isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative splicing. |
UniProt Protein Details: | Protein type:EC 2.4.1.68; Glycan Metabolism - N-glycan biosynthesis; Glycan Metabolism - keratan sulfate biosynthesis; Membrane protein, integral; Motility/polarity/chemotaxis; Transferase Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 14q23.3 Cellular Component: cytosol; Golgi membrane; membrane Molecular Function:glycoprotein 6-alpha-L-fucosyltransferase activity Biological Process: GDP-L-fucose metabolic process; N-glycan processing; oligosaccharide biosynthetic process; protein amino acid N-linked glycosylation; protein amino acid N-linked glycosylation via asparagine |
