UniProt Protein Function: | MKP-7: a non-receptor, dual-specificity phosphoprotein phosphatase (DUSP). Different members of the DUSP family show distinct substrate specificities for MAPKs, different tissue distribution and subcellular localization, and different modes of inducibility of their expression by extracellular stimuli. DUSP16 suppresses MAPK activation in the order of selectivity, JNK >> p38 > ERK, but interacts with ERK as well as JNK and p38. Overexpression of DUSP16 in BCR-ABL-transformed fibroblasts reduces their transforming capacity in vitro and in vivo via down regulation of BCR-ABL-induced JNK activation. DUSP16 might be haploinsufficient for tumor suppression. Contains 1 rhodanese domain. |

NCBI Summary: | This gene encodes a mitogen-activated protein kinase phosphatase that is a member of the dual specificity protein phosphatase subfamily. These phosphatases inactivate their target kinases by dephosphorylating both the phosphoserine/threonine and phosphotyrosine residues. The encoded protein specifically regulates the c-Jun amino-terminal kinase (JNK) and extracellular signal-regulated kinase (ERK) pathways.[provided by RefSeq, May 2010] |
