UniProt Protein Function: | MKP-5: a non-receptor, dual-specificity phosphoprotein phosphatase (DUSP). Different members of the DUSP family show distinct substrate specificities for MAPKs, different tissue distribution and subcellular localization, and different modes of inducibility of their expression by extracellular stimuli. DUSP10 binds to and inactivates p38 and SAPK/JNK, but not MAPK/ERK. Its subcellular localization is unique; it is evenly distributed in both the cytoplasm and the nucleus. This gene is widely expressed in various tissues and organs, and its expression is elevated by stress stimuli. Three transcript variants encoding two different isoforms have been found for this gene. Contains 1 rhodanese domain. |
UniProt Protein Details: | Protein type:Protein phosphatase, dual-specificity; Motility/polarity/chemotaxis; EC 3.1.3.48; EC 3.1.3.16 Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 1q41 Cellular Component: cytoplasm; Golgi apparatus; nucleoplasm; nucleus Molecular Function:MAP kinase phosphatase activity; phosphoprotein phosphatase activity; phosphoric monoester hydrolase activity Biological Process: inactivation of MAPK activity; JNK cascade; negative regulation of JNK activity; protein amino acid dephosphorylation; response to stress |
NCBI Summary: | Dual specificity protein phosphatases inactivate their target kinases by dephosphorylating both the phosphoserine/threonine and phosphotyrosine residues. They negatively regulate members of the MAP kinase superfamily, which is associated with cellular proliferation and differentiation. Different members of this family of dual specificity phosphatases show distinct substrate specificities for MAP kinases, different tissue distribution and subcellular localization, and different modes of expression induction by extracellular stimuli. This gene product binds to and inactivates p38 and SAPK/JNK. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants. [provided by RefSeq, Apr 2014] |
