UniProt Protein Function: | STYXL1: a pseudophosphatase of the dual specificity phosphatase sub-family of the protein tyrosine phosphatases. Contains a Ser residue instead of a conserved Cys residue in the dsPTPase catalytic loop which renders it catalytically inactive as a phosphoprotein phosphatase. The binding pocket may be however sufficiently preserved to bind phosphorylated substrates, and maybe protect them from phosphatases. Interacts with G3BP-1, an RNA-binding protein with endoribonuclease activity that is recruited to stress granules (SGs) during stress. SGs are involved in mRNA sorting in the storing of untranslated mRNAs. STYXL1 inhibits G3BP-induced stress granule formation. Five isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative splicing. |
