バックグラウンド: | This gene encodes a paired-like homeodomain transcription factor in the developing pituitary gland. Expression occurs prior to and is required for expression of pou domain transcription factor 1, which is responsible for pituitary development and hormone expression. Mutations in this gene have been associated with combined pituitary hormone deficiency-2 as well as deficiencies in luteinizing hormone, follicle-stimulating hormone, growth hormone, prolactin, and thyroid-stimulating hormone. |
UniProt Protein Function: | PROP1: Possibly involved in the ontogenesis of pituitary gonadotropes, as well as somatotropes, lactotropes and caudomedial thyrotropes. Defects in PROP1 are the cause of pituitary hormone deficiency combined type 2 (CPHD2); also known as pituitary dwarfism III. It is characterized by impaired production of growth hormone (GH) and one or more of the other five anterior pituitary hormones. Belongs to the paired homeobox family. |
UniProt Protein Details: | Protein type:DNA-binding Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 5q35.3 Cellular Component: transcription factor complex; nucleus Molecular Function:protein C-terminus binding; protein binding; sequence-specific DNA binding; beta-catenin binding; chromatin binding Biological Process: blood vessel development; cell migration; central nervous system development; dorsal/ventral pattern formation; hypophysis morphogenesis; positive regulation of transcription from RNA polymerase II promoter; hypothalamus cell differentiation; negative regulation of transcription from RNA polymerase II promoter; Wnt receptor signaling pathway through beta-catenin; somatotropin secreting cell differentiation; negative regulation of apoptosis Disease: Pituitary Hormone Deficiency, Combined, 2 |
